What a dasha is

The Vimshottari system divides a life into nine periods, from six years under the Sun to twenty under Venus, in an order fixed by the star the Moon stood in when you were born. Each period divides again into nine, and it is those sub-periods that a person actually lives through — the texture of one stretch of years against another.
