Dates chosen the way a panchangam chooses them — nakshatra, tithi, vara, yoga and karana — with the reason given for every one, and the reason given for every period that has none.

Periods with no dates, and why

18 Mar 2025 — 27 Mar 2025
Shukra — Venus — is combust. Venus is the karaka of the spouse and of conjugal harmony, and marriages are not held while it is set. This happens roughly every eighteen months and can last two months when Venus passes behind the Sun.

10 Jun 2025 — 9 Jul 2025
Guru — Jupiter — is combust, too close to the Sun for its light to be seen. Jupiter is the karaka of the husband and of dharma, and no marriage is performed while it is set. This happens once a year and lasts about a month.

4 Aug 2025 — 30 Nov 2025
Chaturmas — the four months from Devshayani Ekadashi to Prabodhini Ekadashi, when Vishnu is held to sleep. No marriage is performed in this period. It is the reason wedding calendars run empty from late July to late November, and it ends on Prabodhini Ekadashi, which is itself the first auspicious day of the season.

Which of these suit you

The dates above are the same for everyone in the city. These two checks are not: tarabala counts the day's star from your own, and chandrabala reads the Moon's sign from yours. Give both birth stars and the list below says which dates clear for both of you — and for the ones that do not, who they are blocked for.

How these are chosen

Each date has to pass panchanga shuddhi: the nakshatra must be one classically named for the purpose, the tithi must not be Rikta, the karana must not be Bhadra, and for a wedding neither Guru nor Shukra may be combust. Every date below carries the reasons it passed.

Where the classical lists disagree about which stars are acceptable, we take only the ones they all agree on. That makes this list shorter than some. A date we leave out costs you nothing; a date we wrongly include costs you a wedding.
