A house facing this way
A south-west-facing house is a good house. The tradition prefers some spots for the main door on every side. That is a detail of the plan, not a judgement on the house.
This part of the house
- Sits well here
- Master bedroom, Staircase, Store room
- The element
- Earth
The earth corner. The heaviest part of a plan and the place for the master bedroom, for stability rather than luck. If a house has one solid corner, this should be it.
A house that differs from the ideal is still a good house.
How this is worked out
This direction reads as Earth. That is where its placements come from: a room goes where its element goes, which is why the scheme holds together rather than being a list to memorise.
We will not tell you to move a wall, a door, a kitchen or a bathroom. Structural changes cost a great deal, are frequently irreversible, and no page that has never seen your home is in a position to recommend one.
