A letter for your child's name

The syllable the classical rule gives, from the pada the Moon actually stood in — not the nine letters a rasi table prints, which is the answer most families already have. A pada is three degrees twenty minutes and the Moon crosses one in about six hours, so two children born the same morning under the same star can take different letters, and only a cast chart tells them apart. The Devanagari is printed beside the English because the English loses information: a hundred and eight padas make only ninety-six distinct spellings in English letters. It does not suggest names and it does not score them — no text ranks names, and a number attached to a child's name is one somebody invented.
