Sevvai dosham
What it is, where the classical texts say it arises, and every exception that cancels it — each one named, each one with the text it comes from. Nothing on this page needs your birth details.

What cancels it
These are the conditions under which the texts say the affliction does not apply at all. They are not a footnote: measured across real charts they cancel it more often than not, and they are the half almost every other page leaves out.
Sevvai is in its own sign. Jataka Parijata is explicit that the dosham does not arise when Sevvai stands in Mesha or Vrischika, whichever house it occupies. This is the most widely accepted cancellation there is.

Sevvai is exalted in Makara. Jataka Chandrika treats an exalted Sevvai as cancelling the dosham outright — a graha at its strongest is not the graha that afflicts.

Sevvai stands in a movable sign. Jataka Parijata holds that the dosham does not apply in the chara rasis, because what moves does not settle long enough to harm.

Sevvai stands in a sign owned by Surya or Chandra. The texts hold that the luminaries do not let Sevvai act as an afflicter in their own houses.

Guru sits with Sevvai. This is the most respected cancellation in the whole list: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra holds that Guru's presence steadies Sevvai, and the dosham does not arise.

Guru aspects Sevvai. Phaladeepika holds that Guru's drishti is enough on its own — Guru need not be anywhere near Sevvai in the sky for this to apply.

Sevvai is combust, too close to Surya to hold its own light. Jataka Chandrika treats a burnt-out Sevvai as lacking the strength to afflict anything.

Sevvai is a benefic in this chart rather than an afflicter — for Karka and Simha ascendants it is yogakaraka, and Jataka Parijata holds that a yogakaraka cannot act against the very chart it serves.
